Neighborhood Watch

In light of recent concerns within our community, the Fort Dodge Community Foundation and United Way, in partnership with the Fort Dodge Police Department and Webster County Sheriff’s Department, are implementing the Neighborhood Watch Program.

Why a Neighborhood Watch?

Basic Crime Prevention
Practice crime safety measures that eliminate opportunities for criminals. Encourage others to join in prime prevention efforts. Aid others when they become victims of crime. Work for a better and safer neighborhood through protection and honoring the rights of others.

Build a Stronger Community
Get to know your neighbors. In our fast-paced world we don’t spend enough time learning about our neighbors. Watch groups give community members a reason to get together and talk about making their community a better place. Neighborhood Watch Activities are a fun way for community members to get to know each other while making a difference.

Some of what a Neighborhood Watch does

  • Holds regular meetings on the topics of your choice
  • Develops effective forms of communication within the neighborhood
  • Gives community members useful tips on how to best protect themselves and their homes
  • Builds observation skills to prevent criminal activity
  • Records suspicious activity which could potentially aid law enforcement if criminal activity occurs
  • Fosters a feeling of community in your neighborhood
  • The beauty is, it’s yours! Have fun with it
